How to remove a stain

CARING FOR YOUR SILK

We love silk and love to wear it most days.

We find many people don’t think they can wear silk day to day because it is hard to launder and seems too precious, or is thought to stain too easily. People often ask Ingrid how she can wear silk so often, and perhaps the secret is to be able to do a little care yourself.

So below Ingrid shares some silk care tips to make laundering your silk pieces simple

HOW TO REMOVE STAINS

This method works best for removing lipstick stains or any stubborn non oil-based stains before they have gone through a wash.

We’re using the 100% silk Lillias dress in ivory, it’s one of my favourite silk dresses to wear and because it’s cream it can get marks on it. Like this lipstick mark on the front inside edge.

You’ll need:

    A soft toothbrush,

    A flannel or heavy facecloth

A bar of soap (or gentle liquid soap)

METHOD

Using warm water, dampen the toothbrush then gently rub a bit of soap onto the toothbrush.

Our Vetyver Bergamot soap works well.

Place the dry cloth under the mark on the underside and gently brush the mark in a circular manner.

Keep wetting the brush with warm water and brushing the soap and stain out. Make sure to move the face cloth underneath as you brush, bringing a fresh clean part of the cloth under the stain as you go. This will help to absorb the stain and soap out of the garment.

This is not quite right, it needs to be in order with the details i put. As in you don’t dip wash it till you have cleaned out the mark

If the stain is stubborn apply a little more soap and keep gently working the area until the stain is gone. If the garment has not been hand washed before you will need to dip the garment into warm or cold water, either in a bucket or in the shower, then allow it to gently drip dry. This avoids the garment watermarking. And that’s it.
